Laminating and mounting by Island Signs.

I Love The Big Squeegee - Signs101.com

I just wanted to shout it to the world that the Big Squeegee is a career saver. After having Carpal Tunnel Surgery on both wrists this year I was thinking that I would have to give up my sign business and concentrate on the Quarter Midget parts business. I just got the Big Squeegee in today and I can say that I can now mask and laminate without the pain in my wrist. It is so easy to use.

A must have for anyone with any symptoms of CT.

From an email on 6/22/07

I just got started cutting vinyl a few weeks ago for a large personal project.  The design, cutting and weeding was not really a problem for me.  My biggest problem was applying the transfer tape.  I could not for the life of me get the tape to apply wrinkle free which made the application of the decals a nightmare, or ruined them so I had to re-cut and weed.

Reading on the sign forums I saw the comments from others on their experience using the Big Squeegee.  The price was right and I figured it can't get any worse, so I ordered one.  I got my Big Squeegee on Tuesday and after a very short learning curve (15 minutes), I have been able to lay down the application tape with near perfection on everything I have tried.  I no longer dread applying the application tape to my cut vinyl.  I can't really say that it is fun to use but it certainly gets the job done easily and correctly.  Now, I know there are many other ways to apply application tape wrinkle free, but being a newby and not having a mentor handy to teach me the other methods and tricks, the Big Squeegee is my tool of choice.  The ease, speed and confidence it gives me was money well spent.  It seems almost fool proof, which is exactly what I needed.  Thanks Dale!

Glenn,

Thanks for the great posts on signs101.com and printingdigital.net

I'm curious as to the details of how much you saved?

Dale

Hi Dale,

We were curious too so we timed it.  On lamination it took just under 2 minutes to sheet cut, put on table, tape in place, cut laminate (our laminate is on a roll dispenser so we just roll it out, tape the far end along with the print by slightly staggering and cut the end near the roll) and apply. The other way which is a wet laminate application it took right at 3 minutes to do the same and with two of us.  It is nice not to have to do a wet application on the laminate application.  On laying down prints it is much faster, if I could roll the print up faster it would be amazing. Sheet cut to applied it took us about 1 minute 30 seconds on the 24 inch by 30 inch prints.  The old way was about 4 minutes 30 seconds and we had to mask it.  We did not time masking with and without the Big Squeegee or applying cut lettering.

We have used the Big Squeegee to laminate & apply 24" x 30" prints, we had 200 prints to apply (100 signs double sided).  We have not tried anything bigger as this project has consumed a lot of our time since getting the big squeegee but the bigger the print the more time we expect to save.  We like it a lot better than the old method and it makes a 2 man job a 1 person job, for example on applying the laminate usually we have one person hold the cut laminate while the other peels the backing and sprays it with application fluid, which is not necessary with the Big Squeegee.  On a 4x8 sign we either do them wet with one person or dry with two but they take a lot longer to apply than a small 2 x 3 sign for sure.  Now one person will be able to apply these with the Big Squeegee as a dry application in a very short amount of time.

I got this thing today called the Big Squeegee and I was extremely surprised at how well it worked.
I was able to flood coat 12x24 magnets and 18x24 pieces of colorplast with almost no effort and no bubbles.. Works good for laminating, taping and applying vinyl as well.

This is the first day I have had this thing and I already love it... :)

Kenny

Dale, I have to admit I was skeptical...I purchased your kit several weeks ago, and let it sit and collect dust...well, I had a rush job to get out tonight, and decided to try it out: 18x24 coro, almost full coverage digital print, no mask, tapped to my dinning room table. Used the flat 25"...starting the leading edge was tricky, but it worked great..a few small bubbles where I started, but none acroos the panel.

I would recommend your pruducts to anyone outside my selling area...those near me should avoid this like the plague.

The squeegee that acts like a laminator. - Signs101.com

Note: Kenny got a new printer after he bought the Big Squeegee. Kenny, I'm glad you finally got to try it out!

Some additional thoughts by Kenny:

-) I have a tool I can use that does not take up any space and allows me to do the work of a much larger dedicated piece of equipment. It does not replace the need for the dedicated equipment, but will complement it in the future.

-) By having the ability to laminate/mask materials manually and in-house, I have time to acquire the funds to purchase the correct equipment for my needs, instead of purchasing a cheaper unit and upgrading in the future.

The Big Squeegee is a solid product that I would recommend to anyone.

I banged out 30 18x24 dbl sided coro signs in no time recently.Hinged, aligned, swooooosh - one push/swipe with that big squeegee and I was done. It saved me a LOT of time. I am not that fast at applications, and this has helped me move along quite a bit.

Previously, the wife and I would only use the 'wet' method for our coroplast signs...
just couldn't do it dry successfully repeatedly.

Bought 1 each of the 3 Big Squeegee's from Dale. Once I figured out a procedure, it has worked beautifully for us...no more wet apply here!

The trick is to flush cut the backing with the edge of the vinyl on the edge that will go down first, align, then hinge it, fold it back and squeegee away. Very quick and easy. It does really work well!

I mostly do digital printing and I did find out the hard way that you MUST wait ~12 hrs after printing BEFORE you try to squeegee it down. If you don't you will get some of the 'god-awfullest' bubbles, wrinkles and stretches imaginable, as the felt on the squeegee tends to not slide easily across the uncured ink. More of a jerky feel to it and this causes the stretching, wrinkles etc.

But once the ink has fully cured out, it works like a dream!

I personally got to see how quick the big squeegee is when I went and got a little tutorial from Barry. Getting your vinyl centered and squared off is the longest part. One swipe, he was done. My eyes must have been the size of half-dollars, because I was shocked. It really really does work.

signguy/jackpine user of the Big Squeegee since Dec of 05

I use Dale's products because they worked the first time and every time after. I sometimes laminate with clear vinyl (shine rite from Feller's) and have had no problems. We use it to lay colored vinyl on panals also. We use 210 also and like it very much. We use the Big Squeegee to lay prints on substrates without application tape. The cost is so cheap for what it does. I highly recomend the Big Squeegee.

That is some fast shipping. I got mine and it sure is easy and quick laying unlaminated 4' x 8' prints with no transfer tape. It will pay for itself with using the savings from the tape in no time.

I also have a "Big Squeegee" by Dale @ Handlaminator - I think this is a must have for any sign shop and a great addition to a stand alone laminator like a GBC...
Webbing a laminator is a PITA and takes some time. The Big Suqeegee is fast, easy and just plain works. The video on his web site just does not do the big squeegee justice (sorry Dale) just my opinion- you just have to try it once and you will be hooked.

Sorry to go on about the squeegee ( and I am not a sales person for Dale) But I like things that make my life easier.

I have read posts on this for months and still haven't seen a real negative one so I bought the 25" with roll holder, and it "really really works".I have been doing a number of 18 x 24 Coroplastic signs I get orders for 6-12 at a time so it is not worth having someone screen print them I usually use a 6" wallpaper squeegee and it is fairly quick, but with this I put it down in one push and pull the pre-mask off without pulling any vinyl off. I am Impressed!

Hi Dale,

I'll try to remember to write a post endorsing your product. I really hope you sell a million of them, the concept is so simple but that's what makes it genius. There's no way I'm going to buy a 10k laminator, it's just too easy to use the big squeegee to protect my digital signs....

Thanks for making my life a lot easier,

The Big Squeegee - IT IS AWSOME!!!!

Just got The Big Squeegee....and man I should've picked one up months ago. This tool is a must for sign shops. I have cut my labor time almost in half. Not to mention not needing to tape my prints before applying.

I just wanted to give Signs by Dale his just credit. He is "The Man".

This is a true testimony! Don't believe me? Get one. You won't regret it!

Totally Satisfied.

I have the #2 but I can use it as a laminator. I have the 36" but I will be getting a smaller one for daily vinyl tape application. I am currently using the 36" for lam and mounting digital prints. IT KICKS BUTT!

I have the Big Squeegee also and love it.. I think you need a couple different sizes I have one that is about 24 inches long and a longer one. The smaller of the 2 I used daily to apply transfer tape. The larger one for laying the large digital prints.

If you can afford it I would get two. As you won’t be sorry.

I bought a 26" to start, and just bought a 38" one because they work so well. I was ready to order a $1200 laminator but thought I would try the BIg Squeegee first, since it was a lot cheaper and had good reviews on this and other boards. For the work I do the Big Squeegee did everything I would have used the laminator for.

I just got my 26" Big Squeegee on sale 2 weeks ago (at that price I had to try it) and love it.

Now I wish I had got it sooner and not bought my WeberMade Premasker.

The Big Squeegee is all you say it is and more Dale thanks for a great tool

AWESOME BIG SQUEEGEE!!

Well, when I first received the big squeegee, I really didn't expect much....probably a result of being burned in the past by products that made a lot of promises, but didn't deliver. But, boy, was I under-estimating this "miracle product"!

It truly has cut our transfer taping time in half. Before, it would take 2-3 employees to assist in taping large graphics or even a large order of smaller graphics, but now, one employee can do the job of 2-3 in half the time! Pretty impressive & a huge time (translated: MONEY!!) saver!

THANKS DALE!!!

I hate taping!

We landed a job back in July of 600 double sided oval (9"X22") signs for one of our customers. The job was perfect for screen-printing, but I don’t have screen print equipment. Vinyl was our only option. So, in gathering all of the supplies for this, (13 rolls of 50yd white vinyl, 1 roll gray, 7 rolls 14" tape, etc) I was looking for a tape applicator of some kind to speed things up. Enter the "Big Squeegee": It’s first use would be to tape the vinyl for all 1200 signs (600 X 2). We saved a ton of time and a ton of frustration on this one job alone.

We actually wore the felt off in that first job, thankfully Dale stands by his product and helped us get our Squeegee back in business ASAP.

Since then we have started to use it on banners to apply the vinyl. We would usually do the soapy water thing, but that really eats into the time that it takes to complete the job. We just stick one side down to the banner, give the Big Squeegee a big push and it’s done! It used to take about twice as long to apply the vinyl on banners.

Sincerely,
